RAMALLAH, Palestine, Aug 4 (NNN-WAFA) – A Palestinian diplomat, accused the United States of preventing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), from holding Israel accountable, and prosecuting it, for the crimes it committed against the Palestinians.
Reyad Mansour, the permanent ambassador of Palestine at the UN, told Voice of Palestine Radio that, “holding Israel accountable is absent, because the U.S. vetoes any resolution that holds Israel guilty.”
The UN Security Council held, on Friday night, a session that devoted its debates to discuss the issue of children in armed conflicts, where the council referred to the UN secretary general’s report on children.
The UN report clearly shows Israeli violations against Palestinian children in 2018, recording the highest percentage of killing, where 59 children were killed and more than 2,000 others injured.
The Palestinian children were either killed or wounded in their participation in the weekly anti-Israel popular protests and rallies, better known as the Great March of Return and Breaking the Israeli blockade, which started in late March, last year.
According to the UN report, 203 Palestinian children are imprisoned in Israeli jails, most of them without a trail, put under administrative detention.
Mansour expressed anger that the report of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, had excluded Israel, and didn’t put it in the blacklist, that includes countries that mistreat children.
“Israel is using the American protection, to carry on with its violations, doesn’t respect international law, and keeps committing crimes against the Palestinian people, in all fields,” Mansour said.– NNN-WAFA
