BRUSSELS, Aug 6 (NNN-Prensa Latina) At the end of 2018, the European Union (EU) ran a trade deficit with Russia of 83 billion, the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) reported.
As reported by Eurostat, a trade deficit between the two economies has prevailed in the last decade, which was highest in 2011 at âé¬93 bn and lowest at âé¬46 bn.
While the EU exported âé¬85 bn to Russia during the past year, it imported from Russia a total of âé¬168 bn, Eurostat added.
EU exports to Russia were dominated by machinery and vehicles, chemicals and other manufactured products, which together accounted for 90 percent of EU exports to Russia.
EU imports from Russia were dominated by primary goods (72%), mainly energy, raw materials, and food and drink.
On a more detailed level, medicines were the EU’s most exported product to Russia, while the most imported product from Russia were poil derivatives, noted Eurostat.
Russia was the EU’s third-largest trading partner for imports (8 percent of total extra-EU imports) and the fourth-largest for EU exports (4 percent of total extra-EU exports)in 2018.
