India: Sacrificial goats sell at high rate in Jajmau

KANPUR: Every goat has its day. As the festival of Eid-ul-Azha approaches, the goat sellers begin to eye on profits. Every sahab-i-nisab Muslim has to offer a sacrifice of a goat, though other permitted animals are also allowed for this religious obligation.

Various spots are fixed for the gathering of the goat sellers in the city areas but the tannery town famous as Jajmau has one spot where the goat sellers converge. This place is known as Nai Chungi.

This year the goat sellers started demanding Rs 9000 per goat and nothing less than that amount. If they are requested to reduce the rate they diligently say, "pay a little less" but the persons busy in arguing at the price think is it a significant thing that they should agree to pay less by one hundred or two or three hundred.

The trend of the goat market is as such and the Muslims are bound to buy the sacrificial goat. The sellers turning up either from Unnao or Fatehpur or local localities determine their own. They keep the animal hungry and thirsty just for earning enough, said a person roaming in the market.
