Bhopal, Aug 17 (PTI) The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh will be spending Rs 300 crore for expanding and improving the facilities for devotees at the famous Mahakal Temple in Ujjain district, an official said on Saturday.
The decision follows Chief Minister Kamal Nath's announcement in his Independence Day address that his government will build 1,000 cow sheds for stray cows across the state.
A three-member committee of the state cabinet would draw up the Mahakal temple project, Nath said during a cabinet meeting here, said an official of the Public Relations Department.
The chief minister asked the committee members to draft a proposal for amendment to the Mahakal Temple Act and place it before the cabinet by month-end, and prepare the final Mahakal temple plan by September end.
The state chief secretary will monitor the project.
The cabinet sub-committee comprises ministers Sajjan Singh Verma, P C Sharma and Jaivardhan Singh.
