JERUSALEM, Nov 26 (NNN-MA’AN) – Nearly half of Israeli women suffered technological violence by their spouses, according to a survey published by Israel’s leading organisation for education and social services.
The survey, published by the Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO), ahead of the annual International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women, shows that, 48 percent of women in Israel, aged 20 to 60, have experienced technological violence by their spouses, at least once.
Such violence includes the use of surveillance measures, such as installing spyware on mobile phones, installing hidden cameras, remote operation of cameras and recorders, hacking into online bank accounts, emails and social networks, and using GPS and interactive maps.
According to the survey, 38 percent of the women’s spouses have read their emails or smartphone correspondence, without their knowledge or approval.
About 14 percent of the women suffered a break into their bank accounts or other online accounts, while 10 percent were photographed or recorded by their partner, without their knowledge and permission.
Additional data released by WIZO show that, a total of 22,974 criminal cases of general violent crimes between spouses, mostly against women, were recorded in Israel in 2018 — an average of about 63 cases per day.
