India: Police turns violent after death of constable

Patna, Nov 2 2018 : A major crisis broke out at Patna police lines here today after police personnel went on rampage breaking glasses of police vehicles, misbehaving with senior police officers and holding demonstration following the death of a woman constable allegedly due to dengue at a private hospital.

State Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) S K Singhal said that the situation was brought under control following prompt action by the senior police officers and cops. He said, it was yet to be ascertained why constables ran amok at the police lines and what was the cause of woman constable's death. He while describing the incident as unfortunate one said that an inquiry had been ordered into it and cops who took the law into their hands and violated disciplinary norms would be identified and action would be taken against them.

Sources said that unruly cops even misbehaved with mediapersons and broke cameras at police lines.

Meanwhile, women constables accused sergeant major at police lines of harassing police personnel and not granting them leave even if it was necessary. They alleged that the woman constable who died at the private hospital was also not granted leave on time delaying her treatment of dengue leading to her death finally.
