KANPUR: A change is apparent in the LPG consumers’ mood. Their inclination towards the subsidized cylinders has once again rekindled. It was this spirit which has led them to apply for gaining subsidized cooking gas cylinders. The constant increase in the price of LPG cylinder has forced them to opt for the subsidized cylinder. For this purpose, they are submitting their applications at the gas agencies almost daily.
Some of the consumers even think that the subsidized cylinders should be increased from 12 to 15. Their concern appears weighty because of the usual complaints about the short weight of the cylinder. One cylinder does not work for more than a month, stated a lot of consumers.
Gas agencies are validating that two to three applicants for taking subsidized cylinders are approaching daily. Those who have earlier surrendered subsidy are now applying for the subsidized cooking gas.
However, the consumers are still showing interest in leaving subsidy but their numbers are not large, said A Pandey, general secretary, gas vitrak Sangh.
According to an estimate, out of eight lakh LPG consumers in the city, as many as 7.46 lakh consumers are benefitted with the subsidized cylinders. A total of 1.50 lakh consumers were not gaining subsidy in the year 2015 which was now reduced to seventy thousand in the year 2016.
