JERUSALEM, May 17 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israel’s Ministry of Health, reported 19 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total cases to 16,608.
One of the new patients is an educational staff member, at an elementary school in the central city of Rehovot.
As a result, the school has been closed until May 27, and 52 pupils from two classes, as well as staff members, were instructed to undergo home quarantine until that date.
An elementary school employee in the coastal city of Tel Aviv was also tested positive, and as a result, a teacher and seven pupils have entered home quarantine.
According to the ministry, the number of victims increased from 266 to 268, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 60 to 59, out of 177 patients currently hospitalised.
The number of recoveries reached 12,855, with 268 new recoveries, while the number of active cases dropped to 3,485, the lowest number of active cases in Israel since Mar 27.
Israel’s beaches are scheduled to officially reopen on Wednesday, according to the Interior Ministry’s decision, but most beaches were already crowded on Saturday.
