India: Fear of locusts spurs farmers' trouble after corona

KANPUR: Amidst the spread of the deadly coronavirus, there looms the raid of locust hoppers and pink-coloured swarms now.  The district administration has made necessary steps like spraying of chemicals and pesticides to save the crop from these flying insects. However, loud noise is still considered to its sudden attack. The farmers are fully aware of this traditional method.

One village farmer said: So far we were worried about the virus but the fear of locusts has worse than the corona. If the crop is destroyed it would be too difficult to survive.

Another tiller stated: All the unparalleled calamities are heading upon us one after the another. Life has become very difficult for the poor. Nature's fury spurs problem.

It has been also suggested to the farmers that they should fill up the sandy field with water in order to control the breeding of the locusts.

An alert has been raised in different tehsils like Billhaur, Ghatampur and Narwal against the impending onslaught of the locust on the crop. The farmers of these areas are a bit worried but they are not lagging behind in initiating preventive measures.
