Improvement in Ganga water quality far cry

KANPUR: Though Sisamau Nullah with a cost of 63 crore rupees has been tapped, the Ganges' biological water quality is yet not improved in every respect. It stays nearly on the same assessment which was done during the year 2014-15 and the year 2015-16 respectively.

This glaring fact has surfaced following a recent report presented by the Central Pollution Control Board. The analysis is in compliance with the apex court’s order.

This 2017-18 biological water quality report places the sacred Ganga river water quality in category C denoting a medium quality.

At the Ganga Barrage, the water quality (diversity score) has even been measured at 0.70 and saprobe score remains at 4.77.

This range was worse than the diversity score of 0.78 and saprobe score 5.33. While this diversity score was 0.70 and saprobe score was 4.84 in the year 2015-16.
