India: Hallet steps up plans for swine flu patients

KANPUR: Even the Hallet Hospital’s medicine department intensive care unit was reported to be unsafe from infections. The department’s lecturer suspected of swine flu infection was given leave to rest. His saliva sample has been sent to the microbiology department’s laboratory. Besides one woman’s spit sample was also sent for examination. In the meantime, the student who had not been earlier admitted to the Infectious Disease hospital’s isolation ward earlier was now given a bed. The ICU was sterilized in the fear of infection spreading fast. The nursing staff and six other patients were given Tamiflu dose to fight with the infectious disease. Giving this information Dr Prem Singh, acting Head of Department said that precautions were taken in order to avoid any risk. If there would be a need for a test, it would also be initiated.

Further, Dr AK Shukla, CMS, IDH told that despite administering Tamiflu medicine to the nurses and doctors deputed at the isolation ward, two non-PG junior doctors were also sent to the ward.

He also maintained that there were available as many as 100 Tamiflu doses at the ward. Along with this 100 N-95 masks, 200 normal masks, 10 protective kits for doctors, 4 pulse oximeters (a non-invasive method for monitoring a person’s oxygen saturation) and oxygen cylinders were also arranged. In the meantime, it was also reported that there was a paucity of kits in the lab. Even the principal Dr A Lalchandaani accepted the laxity and assured of purchase order for the kits.
