India: Jajmau's Defence Colony was once roamed by hyenas

Kanpur: Hyena, a nocturnal carnivorous wild animal, used to wander here once upon a time. But it is today a highly populated colony, said a 47-year-old man adding that dirty spots are still existing here. This is the main paradox of this Defence Colony. It is supposed to have established around the year1974-75. It may be different.

Initially, the houses, as the man born in this area told, had been purchased in about Rs 5500 by the people. He hastened to add that today's price runs in crore.

When he was asked whether the houses are still bought and sold here, he answered those who had bought the property years ago are selling for there was sufficient profit. His reply corroborates with the information of recent sale of a property in the colony

During the year 1992, people showed interest in buying properties in this open area, a bearded man expressed. A few older structures can be seen today. There was no dearth of banking branches in the whole area. The oldest among them is one branch of UCO Bank, as people point out.

While hearing the massive change that has taken place in the past years it becomes clear that the topography transforms with time. In Jajmau, Defence Colony happens to be a posh locality where only moneyed residents are said to be staying. Costly cars move in this colony at present, said the rich residents.

As regards dirty spots, the latest example comes in the form of dirty water flowing on the road. The dirty water remains accumulated on the potholes at different places. The road was dug up for laying down a pipeline and it was not refurbished like it was thereby making the movement risky.
