Kanpur: As the water level in the Ganga river is going down during this summer, temporary bandh supports the drinking water supply. Lalmani Tripathi, executive engineer, Jalkal said temporary bandh has made easier availability of raw water from Ganga river.
The water level in the river was measured at 355.5 feet on Tuesday.
The bandh solidified with sandbags was raised up to 110 meters on the Shuklaganj side within 14 days, though it was to get the height up to 200 meters.
The water stream has thus diverted towards the Bhairon Ghat pumping station. As a result, as many as 20 Crore litres of water reaches the river stream.
This has facilitated the pumping motor at Bhairon Ghat running. It was also learnt that the bandh would complete in ten days.
In the meantime, the drinking water crisis has been minimised with Lower Ganga Canal and Gujaini Water Treatment Plant thereby giving relief to the Jalkal.
As many as 7.8 Crore litres of water remains available that solves the drinking water problem of 8 Lakh people
