Lucknow; 06 May 2021 (UMMN): Based on the results that have been declared, and the leads where counting is in progress, BJP is facing a humiliating defeat UP Panchayat Polls.
BJP seem to have managed to get only 918 out of 3050 panchayat seats – less than one third.
With an eye on next year’s assembly polls, the party wanted to use Panchayats to push its agenda. BJP’s dreams has now come crashing down as it suffers a crushing defeat in the polls, facing a bigger challenge to woo the electorate for the next year’s state election.
Samajwadi Party and independents scored big in these polls.
Assembly polls are just around the corner and people are very angry with the UP government. There are indications that BJP may not return to power in the state. Independents are not inclined to support BJP given the anger among the people, said a report in India Tomorrow.
Even in Ayodhya, a supposedly stronghold of BJP, out of 40 district Panchayat seats, BJP has won only six. Samajwadi Party has won 18, BSP, 4, and independents 5.
BJP has suffered reverses in both Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh, and has been defeated in Basti, Balia, Deoria, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, among others.
SP has performed well in the Panchayat polls winning Etawa, Mainpuri, Araria, Ferozabad. Eta, Azamgarh, Balia, Dewaran, Allahabad, Aligarh, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Hardoi, Sitapur, Kanpur urban, Kanpur rural, Lucknow among others.
BSP has retained the third position and AAP too has won some seats. Congress has not been able to make any mark.
According to Times of India, Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday alleged that the elected members in the panchayat polls were receiving threats from the BJP to cave in.
SP is in touch with its elected members and they have been asked to remain steadfast and not give in to any temptation.
New Farm Laws and mismanagement of Covid-19 pandemic appears to be the main reason of voters’ lash back.
