Kanpur: Negligence in cleaning drains is not a very bizarre thing. Some drains are being cleared by the Nagar Nigam itself. Silts are cleaned up by the machines while safai workers are also engaged in manual cleaning.
It will be worthwhile to mention here that the cleaning will continue up to the last day of the ongoing month. In absence of the completion of the work, the contractors were served with the notices. A warning to blacklist them has also been issued.
The work in Zone 5 appears to be moving slowly as the officer concerned has warned the contractor for speeding up the work.
The nullahs that are undertaken by the contractors are partly cleaned as has been surveyed. Nagar Nigam health department is supervising the drains less than one km width.
But the contractors are not showing enough responsibility. Even silts were not removed from the spot. This has led to the residents bear the brunt of foul smell and insanitation.
Likewise, the opened drains were not covered after cleaning. This causes accidents. In the darkness, the vehicle users fall into the open pits.
Such cases were reported earlier too but officials concerned give no proper attention towards the removal of this anomaly, complain the residents.
