Kanpur: Uproar, slogan-shouting and dramatic antics loomed over Nagar Nigam House called after the ease in corona cases here on Tuesday. Issues like development works, house tax arrears, nullah cleaning, drinking water crisis, supply of contaminated water and others were discussed amid allegations of delay in redressal by the Nigam's officials.
The corporators got irritated at the presentation of budgetary matters in regard to the development works of Jalkal and NN. The deputy mayor Kailash Pandey presented the budget. There were no consensus on other proposals except the budget presentation. The next sitting will be held on Thursday.
Raising the relevant issue of realising the house tax arrears from the year 2016, one corporator asked why were arrears realised from the year 2016? The NN had issued NOC regarding no-dues to the corporators during the corporation elections in the year 2017. Then how have arrears realised since the year 2016? Neither the mayor nor the NA nor other officials replied to this logical question.
Another corporator of Suterganj Ward raised the issue of contaminated water supply. The bottles containing the dirty water were shown to all. Later the bottles were put on the mayor's table. While Gujaini Ward corporator protested by sit-in dharna at the House. He felt no embarrassment in taking out his Kurta in the middle of House, though the mayor objected at it strongly. It was also seen that the corporator entered the House putting the handpump on his shoulder. Further, there was also raised the matter of opening Jogeshwar Hospital like Chacha Nehru Hospital.
Compliance with rules like wearing a mask and social distancing was least followed.
