India: Ganga river rising steadily in Kanpur, villagers alerted of danger

Kanpur: Though Sunday's afternoon remains cloudless, the sky is wholly not devoid of clouds. Yesterday remained a rainy day till the half of the day. This surely brought much relief to the people distressed with the hot and humid weather.

Although rains have brought water to the river Ganga yet the water has been released from Haridwar and Narauna in ample quantity. According to news reports, the river water level has increased up to one metre. An alert has been sounded in villages across the river. The rising river appeared to have changed its water level within a week.

On the Ganga Barrage, the water level has reached up to a height of 112.60 metres. As many as 3.92 cusec water from Haridwar and 13.850 cusec water have lately been released from Narauna. The water level at Shuklaganj has also gone up.

The Jal Nigam assembled a temporary bandh with the help of sandbags but it was said to have been collapsed. This bandh was raised to help water reach Bhairon ghat Zonal pumping station but it washed away due to a rise in water level in the river.
