India: Ganga river's water level rising, alert in Katri area

Kanpur: The water level of the Ganga river has been nearly touching the danger point. All the thirty sluice gates are opened.

Ganga river's upstream water level was recorded at a point of 112.200 metres while the downstream flow was reported at a point of 111.390 metres on Thursday.

The water from Haridwar and Narauna is being continuously released. As a result, the water level is spurting.

On June 24 from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. the quantity of water that has been released from Ganga Barrage was measured up to more than 4.13 Lakh cusec.

The clear effect of water surge in the river can be perceived by the submergence of the ghats like Atal Ghat, Bhairon Ghat, Sarsaiya Ghat and others.

Close to the river, a considerable part of the Atal Ghat has been inundated. Just the same position rests with other Ghats.

The water police personnel have also been  posted around the Ghats.

In view of the increasing water level, a high alert has been sounded in the Katri area.
