Morocco, Spain ink 11 deals to boost cooperation

RABAT, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Spain signed on Wednesday 11 agreements in Rabat to bolster cooperation between the two countries.

In a ceremony chaired by Morocco's King Mohammed VI and King Felipe VI of Spain, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing multi-dimensional strategic partnership.

In the energy sector, Morocco and Spain inked two MoUs, one on the setting-up of a strategic partnership on energy, and the other on the development of a third electric interconnection between the two countries.

On the security level, the interior ministers of the two countries signed an agreement on cooperation in the fight against crime.

In addition, Morocco's flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and Span's IBERIA Airlines signed a MoU to step up cooperation.

Morocco's Royal Archives and the National Heritage of Spain also signed a MoU for the organization of an exhibition on the royal collections of the two countries at the Royal Palace in Spain's capital Madrid.

Spain is Morocco's top trade partner with more than 13.5 billion U.S. dollars, while Morocco is the first recipient of Spanish foreign direct investment in Africa.

Earlier in the day, Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived in Morocco's capital Rabat for an official visit to the North African country.

The Spanish king is accompanied by several senior officials, including Ministers of foreign affairs, interior, industry and fisheries.
