09 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation authorities have renewed detention orders for 70 per cent of the Palestinian administrative detainees held in Israeli jails, Al-Ayyam newspaper reported yesterday.
Reporting on details released by the Palestine Centre for Prisoners Studies, Al-Ayyam said that the detention orders were renewed for periods of between two and six months.
In a statement, the centre said that the Israeli occupation uses administrative detention to keep Palestinian prisoners in jail for the longest possible period without charge, claiming there are secret files against them.
Israel, according to the centre, holds mock trials based on recommendations by the Israeli intelligence.
The Centre said that Israel renewed the administrative detentions of 182 prisoners twice, 110 three times, 63 four times and 13 five times.
It noted that there are 153 Palestinians serving their first term in administrative detention; the majority are former prisoners.
