16 Aug 2021; MEMO: The Israeli Supreme Court yesterday froze eviction orders issued against three Palestinian families in occupied East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, Anadolu news agency reported.
"Today, the [Israeli] occupation court issued a decision freezing the displacement decision of 3 families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, namely Dajani, Al-Dahudi and Hammad, until the court finishes all procedures in the Sheikh Jarrah case," the Sheikh Jarrah's family committee said in a statement.
According to the statement, on 28 July the families' lawyers, Sami Irsheed and Hosni Abu Hussein submitted a request to the high court calling for the orders to be frozen until the court finishes all procedures.
"The decision does not eliminate the threat of displacement facing the neighbourhood's residents, and we affirm that the continuous public support has been the source of our strength, in this case, so stay with us and let us protect Jerusalem together," it added.
Earlier this year, the Israeli Central Court issued an order to forcibly displace the three families from their homes on 5 August to make way for illegal Israeli settlers.
Jewish settler groups claim the homes were built on land owned by Jews before 1948, claims which official Jordanian and UN documents refute.
