23 Aug 2021; MEMO: New Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's nominee as foreign minister said on Sunday that the next government will strive to strengthen and support Iran's allies in the region.
"The resistance movements are Iran's allies that were formed freely to ensure sustainable security in the region and in their countries, and have great potential for establishing national security in regional countries," said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during a parliamentary session to review proposed cabinet members.
Presenting his plans should he become foreign minister, Amir-Abdollahian explained that, "We will support [our] allies and the resistance movements with pride and strength to help maximise security and cooperation in the region."
He added that Iran's allies have many other capabilities in addition to preserving regional security, saying that Iran seeks to establish international resistance across West Asia. The foreign minister-designate pledged to continue following the path of the late Quds Force commander, Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US raid in Iraq last year.
