14 Sep 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett described his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi as "very important and very good" before leaving the Red Sea resort city of Sharm Al-Sheikh to return to Israel yesterday.
"We discussed a number of issues concerning the state, security, and economic affairs, as well as ways to further deepen relations and boost the interests of both nations," explained Bennett. "Israel is beginning to open itself further to its regional neighbours."
The peace treaty signed between Israel and Egypt in 1979 continues to be the bedrock of security and stability in the Middle East, he added. Moreover, Bennett thanked Sisi for Egypt's important role in the region, especially in maintaining stability and security in the Gaza Strip.
Egyptian efforts to find a solution for the Israelis held in the besieged enclave were also praised by the prime minister. Four Israelis are being held in Gaza, including two soldiers who were captured by the Palestinian resistance during the military offensive against the territory in 2014.
The "warm" meeting lasted for three hours, Bennett's spokesman Matan Sidi told Israeli Army Radio.
