Kanpur: Whether you are a dog owner or a cow owner, a license fee is now mandatory in Kanpur Municipal area.
The decision was taken in the executive committee meeting of the Municipal Corporation here on Monday under the chairmanship of the Mayor Pramila Pandey..
The city dog owners will now have to tell the Kanpur Municipal Corporation if they keep a pet in their house.
KMC will also charge a fixed license fee every year from the cow owners. Its not decided that the owners of more than one cow will pay higher fees.
A Rs 250 fees will be paid for indigenous breeds while foreign breeds of cows will attract Rs 500.
Pet owners, however, looked indifferent to paying these fees.
The KMC has issued an order informing the owners of dogs or cows to pay the fees, or face a fine.
The district corporation registered currently has only two dozen dog permits for the entire city.
Sources said that the Municipal Corporation had conducted a survey 3 months ago. According to the survey, there are more than 2,800 pet dogs in Kanpur.
The body has also fixed a fine of Rs 500 on the pet owner if the animal is found on the road.
