Indian National Alliance of Journalists cautions against jingoism

New Delhi, February 23; GANASHAKTI: The National Alliance of Journalists (NAJ) has cautioned against jingoism, mental militarization and spreading hatred against communities, in the aftermath of the brutal killing of CRPF personals in Pulwama.

It has also requested colleagues in some TV channels in particular, to desist from warmongering and at times, even acting as military strategists and advisers- rather than play the role of newspersons seeking to restore peace and stability, in these sensitive times.

Taking note of the situation developing across some cities and towns - post the Pulwama attack and killings of our jawans- while condemning the merciless killings, the statement by NAJ President S.K. Pande and Secretary General Koteswara Rao, added that it was necessary, that the press avoided being part of a narrative of spreading community hatred. ‘Tolerance, vigilance and caution against forces of terrorism and voices of intolerance were the need of the hour’ they said.

“We further condemn, the incessant trolling, and targeting of select women journalists in particular in the twitter, facebook, and  attempts to create and help manufacture the narrative of hate and ultra-nationalism against specific communities in India”, the NAJ  statement further added.
