Kanpur: The Delhi government has accepted an MoU with IIT Kanpur for a source apportionment and forecasting study on air pollutants in Delhi.
Earlier, the Delhi Cabinet had approved the project called 'Real-time source apportionment and forecasting for advance air pollution management in Delhi.'
According to a senior DPCC official, the cost on the study has been estimated to Rs 12 crore.
Thorough analysis on air quality will be done and clarified on a weekly, monthly and seasonal basis. This will be linked with secondary organic and inorganic aerosols, molecular markers and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons respectively.
The source apportionment project helps identify sources of pollution.
It can help assess the impact of different sources like vehicular emissions, industries, dust, and biomass burning.
The government has tasked sub-divisional magistrates with organising anti-cracker campaigns across the city ahead of Diwali.
They have also been empowered to take action against the illegal sale of firecrackers and seize them, along with police, said Environment Minister Gopal Rai.
The government has also directed SDMs of 33 zones to hold meetings on air pollution with RWAs, market associations and NGOs on October 28 and 29 respectively.
