Kanpur: The shops selling firecrackers in the city areas Kanpur are fewer compared to previous years.
A shopkeeper selling firecrackers on the festive occasion said that restrictions were quite confusing as it becomes hard to distinguish between a genuine green cracker and a sham one.
The demand and supply have gone down. The spectre of lockdown also looms large on the business. Some traditional sellers have opted out to other kinds of business.
Although the government has said that cracker shops should be put up in open areas only yet the drawback is that the customers prefer buying the crackers in the open market.
This particular point made the sellers not to put up cracker shops this year. They think it was far better to carry business in other things. People are taking recourse in the laser show.
There used to be arranged shops in the open Phool Bagh but the space is no longer found there.
Firecrackers shops are set up after securing permission from competent authorities.
Either a three-day or lesser duration temporary permit is issued to shopkeepers from one window.
It has been clearly asserted that only green crackers should be sold.
Besides there must be fire safety requirements on the premises.
The crackers must not have more than 110 decibel sound level.
What the Fireworks Dealers Welfare Association reacts is even more disturbing. Traders fear investing in the firecracker business.
