India: Shreyas Iyer's feat in Test debut at Kanpur earns plaudits

Kanpur: Shreyas Iyer on Sunday became the first Indian to score a century and a half-century on Test debut.

He slammed his maiden Test century (105) on Day 2 of the Kanpur Test in India's first innings against New Zealand.

After Prithvi Shaw, he becomes the 16th Indian to score a century on Test debut.

It will be apt to mention here that Prithvi Shaw had reached the triple-figure mark against the West Indies in Rajkot in October 2018.

Iyer, on Day 4, slammed a half-century (65) in India's second innings, thereby becoming the first batsman to register a century and a 50-run mark against his name in Test.

After Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan has become the third-highest run-scorer (170 runs) for India on his debut.

The record book informs that Shikhar Dhawan made 187 runs against Australia in Mohali in 2012 is still the highest scorer for India while Rohit Sharma with 177 runs stands in the second position.
