21 Dec 2021; MEMO: The Federation of the Democratic Left in Morocco yesterday warned of the dangers of normalising ties with the occupation state of Israel, particularly with regards the new security agreements signed with Tel Aviv.
"On the occasion of the first anniversary of signing the ominous normalisation agreement concluded between Morocco and the racist Zionist entity under the auspices of the United States on 22 December 2021. This agreement carries real dangers for the future of Morocco and the Maghreb region," a statement by the bloc said.
It went on to call for protests to "denounce normalisation and to call for its abolition and that of all subsequent military and security agreements concluded with the Zionist entity, which represent a dangerous precedent within the Arabian region."
Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz visited the Moroccan capital Rabat last month and signed a number of memoranda of understanding for cooperation in different fields such as intelligence, defence industries, cybersecurity and joint training. Israeli media report that a deal was also concluded whereby Israel would sell drones and weapons to Morocco.
The Federation of the Democratic Left is an alliance between Socialist Democratic Vanguard Party and the National Ittihadi Congress, it has two seats in parliament.
On 10 December, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries, following their suspension in 2000. In return, the US agreed to recognise Morocco's sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
