Kanpur: The stillness before elections was certainly prevailing here on Saturday. Nothing of the politics was proceeding due to the end of the canvassing. However, the voters are prepared to vote for.
Yet the market look crowded with people, the school is not empty of students, banks remain open, business dealing goes on just a day before the next phase of assembly polls here on Sunday.
The busy market of Lal Bungalow in Jajmau atea remained open on Saturday. The rush was already there. Shops on both sides of the road were open. The traffic was moving normally. The customers were seen in the shops.
In view of Sunday closure, the people flocked to the market for purchasing essential items. One housewife was overheard requesting his husband one 20-litre bucket of white paint for colouring the house before festivals.
What remained worrying was the condition of several women still deprived of voting cards. One woman told she deposited the relevant form for the inclusion of her name in the voting list twice but in vain.
In the same way girls despite attaining the voting age did not avail themselves of the voting right. This irks them a lot like other girls of their age quite excited to cast a vote on Sunday.
It has also been experienced there is a pleasure of voting for the first time. Those who presume women are not aware of their voting right they are completely mistaken.
