China and Russia stand for resolving the situation in Syria as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said at a briefing, commenting on Wednesday’s talks between China’s Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan and Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov.
"Xie Xiaoyan met with Russian Special Envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. They held a thorough exchange of views on political ways to resolve the situation in Syria and reached a broad consensus," Geng Shuang said. "Both parties stand for ensuring the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria. We also call on the Syrian people to build a comprehensive political dialogue in order to find a solution to the situation that based on the interests of all involved parties," the Chinese diplomat added.
He pointed out that China and Russia were permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, as well as strategic partners that "maintain close dialogue on regional and global issues and make joint contributions to ensuring global peace, stability and development." "China will continue to work with all interested parties, including Russia, in order to resolve the situation in Syria as soon as possible," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.
