About 500 million birds, including about 400 species of European birds, began their autumn seasonal migration from Europe to Africa passing through Asia, particularly Palestine and Jordan.
The birds who migrate from across Europe all the way to Siberia, begin their three month journey on 15 August and remain in Jordan and Palestine until the spring migration which begins on 15 February, when they head to Africa and remain until 15 April. They then make the reverse journey back to Europe to mate, Imad Al-Atrash, the executive director of the Palestine Wildlife Society told Al-Quds news site.
Al-Atrash added that migration is a global phenomenon, noting that about 500 million birds of 400 species come to Palestine each season.
According to Al-Atrash, there are currently 150 bird species in Palestine; some of them have always existed in the area, while others have recently settled there like the white stork.
