RAMALLAH, Oct 28 (NNN-WAFA) – One more Palestinian was killed and two others seriously injured, in clashes today with Israeli soldiers, in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian medics said.
Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses said that, a 47-year-old man was shot dead, when Israeli soldiers opened fire at a Palestinian car, passing by the Israeli army checkpoint, near the village of Huwara south of Nablus.
Another two Palestinians, who were in the attacked vehicle, were injured, eyewitnesses said, adding that, the two were brought to hospital in the city.
Israeli media outlets reported that, Israeli soldiers stationed at Huwara checkpoint opened fire at a Palestinian vehicle, that passed by the checkpoint after Palestinian gunmen opened fire from the car at the soldiers.
The report said that no injuries were reported among the soldiers.
The incident occurred shortly after the Israeli army lifted the siege imposed on the city of Nablus, for about two weeks, said the Palestinian security sources.
Over the past few months, the West Bank has witnessed growing tension between the Israeli army and the Palestinians.
Since early Jan, more than 174 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers, including women and children, official Palestinian figures showed.
In the June 1967 Middle East war, Israel occupied the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, which are claimed by the Palestinians, and has controlled the areas ever since. The Palestinians want to establish a Palestinian state on these territories.
