India: Class 10 student jumps from school terrace, condition critical

Kanpur: A girl student of class 10 jumped from the school terrace allegedly after being reprimanded by her teacher at Kanpur Cantonment Board School on Wednesday.

The student was identified as Shivani who has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

The teacher Ghanshyam allegedly hurt the feelings of Shivani in front of the class and said, "Should I get a quilt-mattress for you in school".

Distressed by the ridicule, Shivani jumped from the terrace of the school.

Shivani, in an injured state, alleged that the accused teacher often harassed her at the behest of the class monitor.

He even insulted her by making her stand outside the class for hours. She added that she had also complained to the principal, but no action was taken.

Denying all the allegations, the teacher said that the class monitor had caught Shivani cheating and had complained about the same.

"Shivani always used to talk arrogantly, and I took her to the principal," he added.

School principal Neeta also alleged that Shivani's attitude towards her teachers was not proper.

In the meantime, police have launched an investigation into the matter.
