Russia: Talk of 'digital draft notices' pertains to military records, not mobilization — Kremlin

Dmitry Peskov

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/: A bill for establishing a common register of Russians subject to military service, which would introduce digital draft notices, has nothing to do with mobilization efforts but is intended to modernize military recordkeeping, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

When asked if the Kremlin had any sense that such changes could spark panic and a new wave of emigration, he said: "Absolutely not."

"This has nothing to do with mobilization efforts, but concerns military registration records. This is what should be explained and what people should understand. Military registration is something that our country’s citizens deal on an ongoing basis, based on the Constitution, at least once in a lifetime. This system should be kept up to date and able to meet the demands of the times," Peskov explained.
