Beijing; 18 April 2023 (UMMN): China has objected to Indian home minister Amit Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, saying it violated Beijing’s territorial sovereignty and not “conducive” to peace and tranquillity along India-China border.
Beijing calls Arunachal Pradesh as “Zangnan (South Tibet in Chinese) and claims as China’s territory” whle India calls it Arunachal Pradesh. China’s claim has been repeatedly dismissed by New Delhi which says the north-eastern state is an integral part of India.
Beijing has “standardised” names of 11 places including villages and mountain peaks in the state last week, which India has rejected.
According to Hindustan Times, In February 2018, China had strongly protested Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh saying “The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader’s visit to the disputed area,”
In June 2020, a deadly clash between Indian and Chienese soldiers at Galwan Valley left 20 Indian soldiers dead – the first fatalities along the LAC since 1975.
