Iran thanks Saudi Arabia for evacuating 65 citizens from Sudan

30 Apr 2023; MEMO: Iran has praised Saudi Arabia over its evacuation efforts amid the conflict in Sudan entering its third week. Hundreds of foreigners escaping the country have arrived in the kingdom in recent days, with 1,900 evacuees arriving at a Saudi naval base in Jeddah by ferry yesterday, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Sudan crisis: Boat with 1,687 fleeing civilians reaches Saudi – foreign ministry

JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia), April 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A boat with 1,687 civilians from more than 50 countries fleeing violence in Sudan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said, the largest rescue effort by the Gulf kingdom to date.

The group was “transported by one of the Kingdom’s ships, and the Kingdom was keen to provide all the basic needs of foreign nationals in preparation for their departure,” the ministry said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia foils attempt to smuggle over 12 million amphetamine pills

JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia), April 26 (NNN-SPA) — Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) said on Tuesday it had foiled an attempt to smuggle over 12 million amphetamine pills.

The GDNC thwarted an attempt to smuggle 12,729,000 tablets of amphetamine concealed in a shipment of pomegranate fruit passing through the Jeddah port, GDNC spokesman Marwan Alhazmi said.

The operation was carried out in coordination with Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Zakat and Tax in Jeddah, he said.

Iran, Saudi Arabia resume bilateral trade as part of rapprochement

25 Apr 2023; MEMO: Less than two months after Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic ties, the two Persian Gulf neighbours have resumed their bilateral trade, according to officials on Tuesday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Mining, Reza Fatemi Amin, said in statements cited by state news agency, IRNA, that the entry of Iranian goods into Saudi Arabia was "on the agenda".

Iran, Saudi Arabia to reopen embassies by 9 May

18 Apr 2023; MEMO: Iran and Saudi Arabia will reopen their embassies in each other's countries by 9 May, a senior Iranian diplomat said yesterday.

Alireza Enayati, director for Persian Gulf affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told state news agency IRNA that Tehran and Riyadh are set to reopen their embassies.

Saudi Arabia FM visits Syria in first time since 2011

18 Apr 2023; MEMO: Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister has arrived in Syria's capital today, in the first such official visit to the country since the outbreak of the ongoing conflict in 2011.

Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, this afternoon, where he was welcomed at the airport by Syria's Minister of Presidency Affairs, Mansour Azzam. He then reportedly met with Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad, but no details of their meeting have yet been revealed.

Palestine President arrives in Saudi Arabia for talks

17 Apr 2023; MEMO: Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday for talks with Saudi officials, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The Palestinian leader was welcomed upon his arrival in Jeddah by the governor of Mecca, Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

According to state news agency, Wafa, Abbas will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday to discuss Palestinian and regional developments.
