China: Industrial transfer driving Pakistan’s modernization: Prof Cheng

Chinese FM to meet press on foreign policy, relations

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet the press Monday afternoon on the sidelines of the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress.

Wang is expected to take questions from journalists at home and abroad on China's foreign policy and foreign relations via video link in consideration of COVID-19 prevention and public health.

The event will be broadcast live by China Media Group, and xinhuanet.com will provide live broadcast in photos and text.

New US ambassador arrives in Beijing amid tense relations

BEIJING (AP) — New U.S. Ambassador Nicholas Burns has arrived to take up his post in Beijing amid heightened tensions between China and the United States over Taiwan, trade, human rights and the war in Ukraine.

Burns arrived Friday with his wife Libby and a group of other U.S. diplomats and their families and will undergo three weeks of quarantine at his official residence as China requires, according to a U.S. Embassy spokesperson.

During his quarantine, the ambassador will virtually meet with U.S. Mission staff, the spokesperson said.

Pakistan power project using China’s Hualong One connected to grid

BEIJING, March 5 (APP): The K-3 unit of the Karachi Nuclear Power Project in Pakistan, the fourth entity to use a China-designed third-generation nuclear reactor, was successfully connected to the grid, laying solid foundations for commercial operation.


All four of the units adopting China’s Hualong One nuclear reactor are now connected to the grid and are generating electricity, Global Times reported while quoting China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) statement.

China lowers GDP target for 2022 to 5.5 per cent

Beijing, Mar 5 (PTI) China on Saturday lowered its GDP target to 5.5 per cent for this year bringing it down from last year's 6.1 per cent.

The new target for the second-largest economy was announced by Premier Li Keqiang in his work report presented to the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's Parliament which opened its annual session here on Saturday.

US Navy says crashed F-35C plane raised from South China Sea

BEIJING (AP) — The U.S. Navy says it has recovered an F-35C Lightning II aircraft that crashed while attempting to land on an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea in January.

The 7th Fleet said a robot submarine attached rigging lines to the long-range joint strike stealth fighter, which was then raised from a depth of 3,780 meters (12,400 feet) on Wednesday using a ship’s crane.

The recovery alleviates concerns that China or Russia might reach it first and gain access to its advanced technology, whether to replicate it or learn how to defeat it.

China’s legislature to meet with economy, Ukraine backdrop

BEIJING (AP) — China’s 3,000-member ceremonial parliament will open its annual session Saturday with the government facing a slowing economy and international pressure over its refusal to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

BEIJING (AP) — China’s ruling Communist Party is temporarily turning away from its longer-term ambitions to focus on pulling the economy out of a slump as the country heads into the annual meeting of its ceremonial legislature.

The National People’s Congress, usually used to showcase big initiatives, is overshadowed this year by a “policy pivot” begun in December by President Xi Jinping’s government to revive anemic consumer spending and housing sales.
