China: Beijing 2022 builds platform for cultural exchanges, mutual understanding: SCO SG

BEIJING, Jan 31 (APP): The Beijing Olympic Winter Games will not only provide a competitive stage for athletes from different countries and regions but also build a platform for cultural exchange, said Zhang Ming, secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Monday.

Zhang made the remarks during an exclusive interview with Xinhua prior to the opening of Beijing 2022, as 12 SCO countries will attend the opening ceremony taking place on February 4 at the National Stadium.

HKSAR chief executive delivers Lunar New Year message

HONG KONG, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam on Monday delivered a Lunar New Year message, wishing all Hong Kong citizens a healthy, harmonious and auspicious Year of the Tiger.

The Lunar New Year falls on Feb. 1 this year.

"Looking back on the Year of the Ox, we have maintained stability overall as a result of hard work," Lam said.

Hong Kong government says commenting on its COVID strategy is not "illegal"

Covid-19: Canada has five cases in Winter Olympics team

 BEIJING, Jan 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Canada said five members of its Winter Olympics delegation in Beijing have tested positive for Covid-19.

   The winter sports powerhouse has not said whether those concerned are athletes, support staff or officials.

   “Currently five out of the 246 members of the Team Canada delegation in Beijing are in Covid-19 protocols,” the Canadian Olympic Committee said in a statement released late Friday.

China urges U.S. to correct wrongdoings in trade practices following WTO ruling

BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- China has urged the United States to "find no more excuses and immediately correct the wrongdoings" in its trade practices after a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling granted China rights to slap tariffs on U.S. goods, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.

On Jan. 26, the WTO issued the decision that China could impose tariffs on goods imported from the United States totaling up to 645 million U.S. dollars a year, as the U.S. side failed to implement previous recommendations and rulings made by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body.
