China: Beijing official signals Hong Kong electoral reforms to ensure 'patriots' govern

BEIJING (Reuters) - “Loopholes” in Hong Kong’s laws must be closed to ensure the city is governed by “patriots”, a top Beijing official said on Monday, signalling changes to the Chinese-ruled city’s electoral system, potentially as early as next month.

Any changes could further limit who could run in a postponed legislative election and may lead to the disqualification of most lower-level district councillors - the majority of them being pro-democracy politicians, sources have told Reuters.

China urges US to lift trade restrictions, stop interference

BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The lander and the rover of the Chang'e-4 probe have been switched to dormant mode for the lunar night after working stably for the 27th lunar day, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration.

The lander was switched to dormant mode at 1:30 p.m. Friday (Beijing Time) as scheduled, and the rover, Yutu-2 (Jade Rabbit-2), at 1:48 a.m. Friday, said the center.

BEIJING (AP) — China lashed out at Canada on Thursday for joining the U.S. and 56 other countries in endorsing a declaration denouncing state-sponsored arbitrary detention of foreign citizens for political purposes.
