China extends congratulations to the US President-elect Joe Biden

BEIJING, Nov 13 (APP): A Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesman on Friday congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the election as president and vice president of the US.

“We noticed that more country’s leaders and heads of international organizations have congratulated Biden including United Nation Secretary General. We extend congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris,’ Wang Wenbin said during the regular briefing held here.

He said that the Chinese side have been following reactions on the US elections from within the US and the international community.

China launches new mobile telecommunication satellite

XICHANG, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched a new mobile telecommunication satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Thursday.

The Tiantong 1-02 satellite was launched at 23:59 (Beijing Time) by a Long March-3B carrier rocket.

Tiantong-1 is a satellite mobile communication system independently developed and built by China. It consists of a space segment, ground segment, and user terminal.

Trump bans US investment in Chinese military-linked firms

BEIJING (AP) — President Donald Trump has stepped up a conflict with China over security and technology by issuing an order barring Americans from investing in companies that U.S. officials say are owned or controlled by the Chinese military.

The impact of the order Thursday wasn’t immediately clear but it could add to pressure on companies including telecom equipment giant Huawei and video surveillance provider Hikvision that already face U.S. export bans and other sanctions.

Hong Kong pro-democracy legislators hand in resignations

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong’s pro-democracy legislators began resigning in protest Thursday, one day after the government ousted four members of their camp.

The 15 remaining members of the bloc have said they will resign en masse in a show of solidarity after China’s central government in Beijing passed a resolution this week that led to the four lawmakers’ disqualification.

Most of the 15 did not attend a regular session of the legislature on Thursday, and some later handed in resignation letters at the Legislative Council’s secretariat.

Hong Kong legislature opens; democracy bloc set to resign

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong’s legislature opened Thursday ahead of the planned mass resignation of its pro-democracy bloc, one day after the government ousted four of its members.

One of the pro-democracy lawmakers, Lam Cheuk-ting, unfurled a banner from a balcony of the legislative council building saying the city’s leader Carrie Lam had brought disaster to Hong Kong and its people.

U.S. records 1 mln COVID-19 cases in 10 days, highest increase rate since pandemic

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 10 million on Monday, doubled in just three months since it hit 5 million on Aug. 9.
