Chinese mainland reports no new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese health authority said Monday that no new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Sunday.

Eleven imported cases were reported, including 10 in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and one in Sichuan Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases and no deaths related to the disease were reported, according to the commission.

Russian-Chinese anti-coronavirus cooperation will enhance ties - Wang Yi

BEIJING, May 24. /TASS/: Russian-Chinese cooperation in the anti-coronavirus fight will help create an impetus for boosting bilateral ties, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a press conference on the sidelines of the 3rd session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) on Sunday.

"No doubt, cooperation between the two countries in combating the virus will give a powerful impetus for enhancing bilateral cooperation between Russia and China. China is working with Russia in order to turn the crisis into an opportunity," Wang Yi said.

Crowds thronged the bustling shopping district of Causeway Bay, where echoes of “Hong Kong independence, the only way out,” and other slogans rang through the streets.

A protester wearing a black hoodie and surgical mask held a banner that said: “I stand for Hong Kong’s independence.”

Wuhan lab head calls virus leak claims 'pure fabrication'

New York, May 24 (AP/PTI) Claims promoted by the Trump administration that the global coronavirus pandemic originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the central Chinese city are a pure fabrication," the institute's director said.

Wang Yanyi was quoted by state media on Sunday as saying the institute did not have any knowledge before that nor had we ever met, researched or kept the virus...We didn't even know about the existence of the virus, so how could it be leaked from our lab when we didn't have it?

First COVID-19 vaccine human trial finds it is safe

Beijing, May 23 (PTI) The first COVID-19 vaccine to reach phase I clinical trial is safe, well-tolerated, and capable of generating an immune response against the novel coronavirus in humans, says a new research published in The Lancet journal.

According to the study of 108 adults, the vaccine produced neutralising antibodies, and a response mediated by the immune system's T-cells against the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

The legislation aims to tackle secession, subversion, terrorism, and foreign interference and could see mainland intelligence agencies set up bases in Hong Kong, raising fears of direct law enforcement.
