India: Sameer Wankhede meets NCSC, submits his Dalit caste documents

New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) Fighting allegations that he forged documents, Narcotics Control Bureau's Mumbai zonal head Sameer Wankhede on Monday presented his original caste papers to prove he is a Dalit to National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairperson Vijay Sampla.

Mumbai, Oct 30 (PTI) It was the homecoming of their "prince" Aryan Khan and superstar Shah Rukh Khan's fans made sure to make it special as they thronged in larger numbers outside the actor's bungalow here, celebrating with music, dance and firecrackers.

Aryan walked out of the Arthur Road prison after 22 days in the central Mumbai facility following his arrest during a drug raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.

India navy receives first P15B guided-missile destroyer

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Navy received its first P15B stealth guided-missile destroyer from Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders on Thursday, an official statement said on Saturday.

The construction and delivery of this ship -- named "Visakhapatnam" -- is another testament of impetus given by the government and the Navy to the indigenous warship construction programmes, it said.

A guided-missile destroyer has the capability to launch guided anti-aircraft missiles from its deck.

India: Pawar decries trolling of Muslim players after loss to Pakistan

Mumbai, Oct 29 (PTI) NCP chief and former ICC chairman Sharad Pawar on Friday described the trolling and abuse faced by some Indian players on social media after the loss to Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match as "indecent".

Some players, especially pacer Mohammad Shami, were targeted on social media following the loss.

It is my appeal to the so-called cricket lovers that they should refrain from discouraging players with such criticism," Pawar said during an event here.

India: Won't arrest Sameer Wankhede without giving prior notice: Maha govt to HC

Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that it will not arrest NCB's zonal director Sameer Wankhede without giving him a prior notice of three working days, in connection with the allegations of extortion and corruption levelled against him.

Wankhede also moved the Bombay High Court on Thursday, seeking interim protection from arrest or any coercive action against him.

India: Over hundred BJP workers join NCP in Maha

Thane, Oct 27 (PTI) As many as 114 BJP workers including 21 local corporators joined the Nationalist Congress Party at Ulhasnagar in Thane district on Wednesday.

Out of 32 BJP corporators in the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, 21 crossed over to the NCP at the function in the presence of Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad and former MP Anand Paranjape, the Sharad Pawar-led party said in a release.

Besides, 19 former corporators of the UMC and sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of Warap, Mharal and Kamba gram panchayats joined the NCP.

India: Nawab Malik claims Sameer Wankhede illegally tapping phones

Mumbai, Oct 26 (PTI) Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday accused NCB official Sameer Wankhede of illegal phone tapping and announced that he will hand over a letter on the official's misdeeds' to the agency head.

Sameer Wankhede through two persons in Mumbai and Thane is illegally intercepting the mobile phones of some people, said Malik, who has been targeting Wankhede after his son-in-law's arrest.

Malik also claimed that Wankhede had sought the call detail record (CDR) of his family member from the police.

Indian Rupee settles 18 paise lower at 75.08 against US dollar

Mumbai, Oct 25 (PTI) The rupee ended 18 paise lower at 75.08 (provisional) against the US currency on Monday due to a spike in crude oil prices and a stronger greenback against key rivals overseas.

At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened on a weak note at 74.98 and witnessed an intra-day high of 74.97 and a low of 75.10 against the American currency during day trade.

India: PM Modi's 100 cr (1 billion) vaccination doses claim 'false': Sanjay Raut

Mumbai, Oct 24 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has alleged that the claim of administration of 100 crore vaccine doses against COVID-19 in the country was "false" and not more than 23 crore (230 million) doses were given to eligible citizens so far.

Addressing a party meeting at Nashik in Maharashtra on Saturday, Raut said he would give proof that the 100 crore vaccination claim was "false".

"How much will you lie?" the Rajya Sabha member asked, without taking any names.
