Warangal(Telangana), Feb 12 (PTI) A 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by nine people in Mahabubabad district following which eight of them have been arrested.

Eight of the accused were arrested on Monday night at Mahabubabad while one is still at large, police said.

Hyderabad, Feb 5 (PTI) The biennial 'Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara,' a mega tribal festival was celebrated with gaiety and fervor at Medaram village in Mulugu district of Telangana on Wednesday.

According to an official release, about one crore pilgrims from Telangana and neighbouring Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh are expected to visit the festival.

State Governor Tamilsai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao are expected to visit the congregation on February 7, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar told PTI.

Hyderabad, Feb 3 (PTI): A case has been registered against an advocate, also a local BJP leader in Telangana for allegedly raping a woman in 2007, police said on Monday.

The 47-year old woman filed a complaint alleging that she was raped by the advocate M Raghunandan Rao, following which a case of rape was registered against him, police said.

Hyderabad, Feb 1 (PTI) The Union Budget proposals are 'totally disappointing' and the Centre has shown discrimination towards Telangana by imposing substantial cuts in funds to be released to the state, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Saturday.

He said the Centres allocations in the budget may have an adverse impact on the development of Telangana, "which is a progressive state."

Hyderabad, Jan 28 (PTI): Seven people have been arrested in Khammam district in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a tribal woman, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, all aged between 24-26, were rounded up on Monday.

Hyderabad, Jan 26 (PTI): A 36-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped after being abducted from her house in a village near Khammam in Telangana, police said on Sunday.

Two persons went to the woman's house on Friday night and took her to a nearby cotton field after threatening her, the police said.

Hyderabad, Jan 25 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said the state assembly may pass a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act like some other states did recently.

Rao said he has already spoken to many of his counterparts in other states and he may convene a conclave of regional parties and Chief Ministers here to oppose the CAA since it concerns the country's future.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) The Supreme Court has defined the power and duties of a three-member commission headed by a former apex court judge set up to inquire into the alleged encounter killing of the four accused in the gang-rape and murder case of a woman veterinarian in Hyderabad.

Fixing the terms of reference for the commission headed by former SC judge V S Sirpurkar, the court said the panel would go into the circumstances that led to the death of the four and ascertain if any offence has been committed in the course.

Hyderabad, Jan 18 (PTI) The upcoming urban local bodies polls is going to be a litmus test for both Congress and BJP in proving their might in urban areas of Telangana even as the ruling TRS is confident of bagging "lion's share" of municipalities and corporations.

The polling for 120 municipalities and nine municipal corporations will be held on January 22 and the results would be declared on January 25.

Hyderabad, Jan 14 (PTI) A team of researchers from IIT- Hyderabad along with others have developed an efficient combination therapy for the treatment of cancer.

The researchers in collaboration with those from the University of Hyderabad, IIT-Bombay and Bose Institute in Kolkata have developed a synergetic combination of Photothermal therapy and chemotherapy using a naturally derived anticancer agent and shown its efficacy in destroying cancer cells, a press release said on Tuesday
