India: All IPL matches suspended indefinitely: Centre to Delhi HC

New Delhi, May 5 (PTI) The Centre on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that all Indian Premier League (IPL) matches have been suspended, and therefore, nothing remains in the plea to stop the fixtures to be held in the national capital.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh was informed about the suspension of the IPL matches by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

The court adjourned the matter to May 19 as no one appeared for the petitioner.

Army's Base hospital facing oxygen shortage

New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) The Indian Army's Base hospital in Delhi is facing shortage of medical oxygen following a substantial cut in its supply by the Delhi government, military sources said.

The authorities in the hospital said that though there was no immediate shortage of oxygen, the cut in the daily quota may result in serious difficulties in treatment of COVID-19 patients at the facility.

India: IAF brings 4 cryogenic oxygen containers from Germany

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) An Indian Air Force heavy-lift transport aircraft on Monday brought four empty cryogenic oxygen containers from Frankfurt in Germany, according to an official statement.

The C-17 aircraft landed at the Hindon airbase near the national capital, it said.

"The aircraft flew out of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport after taking 4 empty cryogenic oxygen containers, to land at Hindon on May 3," the IAF's statement said.

India records 357,229 new cases in single day

New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) India's total tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 2 crore (2 million) mark with 357,229 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 222,408 with 3,449 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The total tally of COVID-19 cases in the country has climbed to 20,282,833.

Taiwan delivers Covid-19 medical supplies to India

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Taiwan on Sunday delivered to India 150 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders to assist the country in its fight against a devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) said more batches of medical equipment and supplies will be airlifted to India soon.

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday hailed Mamata Banerjee for her "spectacular victory" in the West Bengal Assembly polls and said the BJP has met its match in Bengal and lost.

Tharoor, who campaigned extensively for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Kerala polls, also expressed disappointment with the results in the state where the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front was all set to retain power with a thumping mandate.

India: Oxygen shortage: Delhi hospitals cry for help

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Battling an acute shortage of oxygen, some hospitals in Delhi on Sunday sent out desperate SOS calls to authorities to replenish their dwindling stocks, with one healthcare facility even requesting the government to shift out its patients.

Madhukar Rainbow Children's Hospital in Malviya Nagar on Sunday sounded an alarm about their depleting stocks around noon, saying 50 people, including four newborns, were "at risk".

The hospital does not have a liquid oxygen storage tank and depends on oxygen cylinders from a private vendor.

India: Jaishankar on four-day visit to London to attend G7 meeting as 'Guest'

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will begin a four-day visit to London from Monday primarily to attend a meeting of foreign ministers of Group of Seven (G7) rich nations.

India has been invited to the meeting as a guest country.

"The external affairs minister will be visiting London from May 3-6 to participate in the G7 foreign ministers meeting, at which India has been invited as a guest country. He will thereafter undertake a bilateral visit to the UK," the Ministry of External Affairs said.

India: COVID-19 vaccination for people above 18 begins in Delhi

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) The third and largest phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive to inoculate people in 18-45 age group began here Monday morning.

Around 90 lakh people are eligible for the jabs under this category in Delhi. Five vaccination booths each have been set up at 77 schools for the exercise, an official said.

The government set up the vaccination centres at schools to accommodate the large number of beneficiaries, he added.

Till now, vaccines were being given to those aged above 45 at around 500 centres in the national capital.

India records 368,147 new cases in single day

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) The daily COVID-19 cases in India showed a slight dip with 368,147 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, taking the total tally of cases to 19,925,604, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll increased to 218,959 with 3,417 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

While the country recorded 401,993 new cases on May 1, it had registered 392,488 cases on May 2.
