Fatehpur (UP), Jul 30 (PTI) A local court here on Friday sentenced a man to seven years' imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2011.

Additional district and sessions judge Nitya Pandey awarded the sentence to 24-year-old Kamlesh and imposed a fine of Rs 14,000 on him.

The incident had taken place in April 2011 in a village in the Sultanpur Ghosh area.

Coming out of the mosque at Jajmau area here in the afternoon it was surprisingly seen two weak and poor persons were seeking monetary help for their purposes respectively.

One of them laid down a piece of cloth while the other was standing. The people were bestowing them with money which they thought reasonable for the sake of their good.

Lucknow, Jul 29 (PTI) BSP chief Mayawati Thursday urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the Pegasus snooping row and said that "mistrust and confrontation" between the government and the Opposition over important issues have stalled the functioning of Parliament.

She said the country is "worried" over the Centre not ordering a probe in the Pegasus "espionage scandal".

Her statement came as Parliament witnesses continued disruption due to the Opposition protest over several issues including the snooping row, farm laws and price rise.

Baghpat (UP), Jul 29 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted BJP workers to strengthen the party up to the booth level in view of the upcoming Assembly elections and asked them to go among people to resolve their problems.

The chief minister, who arrived here on Thursday morning, met party office-bearers and workers.

There is very less time left for the Assembly elections, for which preparations should be started from now, the CM said, according to a BJP spokesman.

Ballia (UP), Jul 29 (PTI) A local court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl last year.

Additional district and sessions Judge Shiv Kumar awarded the life imprisonment to Prem Sagar and also imposed Rs 20,000 fine on him, Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said.

Sagar had on April 20, 2020 took the girl in a room on the first floor of a shop in Sikandarpur area when she had come there, following which he raped her.

The FIR in this regard was registered by the victim's mother.

Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 28 (PTI) Four men were arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in a village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on July 4 when the girl had gone to an agricultural field.

The accused had also taken obscene photographs of the minor and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident, the police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the minor's mother on July 27, a case was registered against the four men and they were arrested on Wednesday, the police added.

Budaun (UP), Jul 29 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death here by her family members for marrying against their wishes, police said on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Archana, a resident of Palia Gujar under Dataganj police station area here, they said.

Barabanki (UP), Jul 28 (PTI) At least 18 people were killed and 25 injured after a truck rammed into a stationary double-decker bus here, police said on Wednesday.

The accident took place on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway under Kotwali Ramsanehighat area late on Tuesday night. The private bus was carrying over 130 passengers to Bihar from Ludhiana in Punjab, they said.

The axle of the bus broke down and it was parked on the road when a speeding truck coming from behind hit it, killing 18 people on the spot and injuring 25 others, the police said.

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 26 (PTI) Three people were arrested for the alleged abduction and gangrape of 15-year-old girl, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday and the accused -- Shiva, Vishal and Ankit have been booked under the POCSO act. The accused and the victim belong to the same village, police said.

Mahoba (UP), Jul 26 (PTI) A woman, in her mid-sixties, was allegedly tied up and raped in Kabrai town here, police said on Monday.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and found the woman, aged around 65 years, in a critical condition with her hands and feet tied.

She was rushed to a hospital for treatment, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajendra Kumar Gautam said.
