Myanmar court convicts Suu Kyi of vote fraud, adds jail time

Bangkok, Sep 2 (AP/PTI) A court in Myanmar on Friday sentenced ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi to three years' imprisonment with labour after finding her guilty of election fraud, adding more jail time to the 17 years she is already serving for other offenses prosecuted by the military government.

The latest verdict also carries potentially significant political consequences for Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party by lending support to the government's explicit threats to dissolve it before a new election the military has promised for 2023.

Malaysian Investment Authority Partnered With Chinese Firm’s Overseas Branch For Supply Chain Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), said yesterday, it partnered with Xinyi Energy Smart (Malaysia), an overseas division of China’s integrated glass manufacturer Xinyi Glass Holdings Limited, for a supply chain programme.

This programme seeks to establish a conducive supply chain ecosystem, by partnering with local suppliers, vendors and service providers, the two sides said in a statement.

Indonesia hikes fuel prices to rein in ballooning subsidies

JAKARTA, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Indonesia raised subsidised fuel prices by about 30% on Saturday, as the government moves to rein in ballooning subsidies despite a risk of mass protests.

The price of subsidised gasoline was raised to 10,000 rupiah ($67 U.S. cents) a litre from 7,650 rupiah, while that of subsidised diesel rose to 6,800 rupiah a litre from 5,150 rupiah, energy minister Arifin Tasrif said.

Shenzhen districts locked down as China battles COVID outbreaks

SHENZHEN, China, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Most residents of the Chinese tech hub of Shenzhen went into a weekend lockdown on Saturday as mass COVID-19 testing kicked off in much of the city of 18 million people.

The lockdown, and the suspension of bus and subway services, came into effect two days after city authorities said rumours about a lockdown were based on a "misinterpretation" of the latest COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

Myanmar: Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to 3 more years in prison, totaling 20 years

YANGON, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's former State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday has been sentenced to three years in jail for electoral fraud in 2020, increasing her total prison term to 20 years, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council confirmed on Saturday.

She, along with former President U Win Myint and former Union Minister of Union Government Office U Min Thu, was found guilty of electoral fraud, said the information team.

Cambodia Arrested 10,545 Drug-Related Suspects In First Eight Months

PHNOM PENH, Sept 2 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian authorities arrested 10,545 drug-related suspects, including 154 foreigners, in 4,384 cases during the first eight months of this year, said an Anti-Drug Police Department (ADP)’s report, yesterday.

About half of the suspects were drug users, and the other half were drug traffickers, manufacturers and transporters, the report said.
