09 April 2020; MEMO: The Bahraini government announced yesterday that it will spend 215 million Bahraini dinars ($570 million) on the salaries of 100,000 employees working in the private sector for a period of three months, to mitigate the economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bahraini Minister of Labour and Social Development, Jamil Humeidan, said employers wishing to take advantage of the government’s initiative should register on the General Authority for Social Insurance’s website.

MANAMA, Apr 5 (NNN-BNA) – The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, closes a pharmacy for hiking the prices of sanitisers, profiting from the exceptional conditions, resulting from the COVID-19.

The pharmacy, which is located in the area of Riffa, was found in breach of Law 35 of 2019, on consumer protection, said the ministry.

21 Mar 2020; MEMO: Bahrain’s Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al Khalifa returned to the kingdom after medical treatment in Germany, the state news agency BNA said on Friday.

The agency said King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received the prime minister on his return after a “full recovery.”

Khalifa, 84, has served as Bahrain’s prime minister since the Sunni Muslim-led island kingdom declared independence from Britain in 1971. The al-Khalifa family has ruled since 1783.

DUBAI, Mar 9 (NNN-WAM) – Organisers of the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, confirmed that, this season’s race will take place without spectators, in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“In consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom’s national health Taskforce, Bahrain made the decision to hold this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix as a participants-only event,” a statement said.

03 Jan 2019; MEMO: Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa has appointed the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, as the kingdom’s new minister of foreign affairs replacing Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

The Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported that Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa made the announcement during a meeting with Al-Zayani.

8 Nov 2019; MEMO: A US-led naval coalition yesterday officially launched a mission from its base in Bahrain to protect shipping in the Gulf region following a series of attacks on ships and oil tankers.

The operation, dubbed Sentinel, will provide escorts to commercial vessels passing through the Gulf waters, the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of ​​Oman and the Bab El-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea.

MANAMA, Sept 7 (NNN-BNA) – Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, officially inaugurated the largest underwater theme park, Dive Bahrain, which was announced by Personal Representative of the King, Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Environment.

The initial phase of the project has been completed recently, by submerging a 70-metre long Boeing 747, 20-22 metres below the water North of Bahrain, to become the first attraction of the 100,000 m2 theme park area.

Manama, Aug 25 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the USD 4.2 million redevelopment project of the 200-year-old Lord Sri Krishna temple in the Bahraini capital.

Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the key Gulf nation, offered prayers at the Shreenathji Temple in Manama, the oldest temple in the region, and also the prasad' that he bought with the RuPay card after launching it in the UAE on Saturday.

Prime Minister then unveiled the plaque, thus officially launching the redevelopment project of the iconic temple.

MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, appealed Tuesday for the Palestinians to consider a $50 billion economic support plan, even though they already rejected the proposal because it does not include a political resolution to the long-running conflict with the Israelis.

Kushner, speaking at a conference in Bahrain, defended the proposal as the foundation of any eventual peace plan. Meanwhile, Palestinians protested the plan in the streets of the West Bank, Gaza and elsewhere.
