India: Protest march held in Raipur against CAA, NRC

Raipur, Dec 15 (PTI) A protest march was taken out in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur against the "divisive" amended citizenship law which grants Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants fleeing religious persecution from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The protest was held under the banner of the "Anti-CAB Agitation Forum" from Marine Drive area to Ambedkar Chowk in evening, said Gautam Bandopadhyay, an activist.

India: Sitting BJP MLA, on bail in sexual assault case, shares stage with PM Modi

Baghmara; 15 Dec 2019 (UMM): Sitting MLA and BJP’s Baghmara candidate Dulu Mahto faces a sexual assault case and is currently out on provisional bail. Mahto shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a poll rally on Thursday.

Mahto called a BJP worker in 2015 to a guesthouse in connection with party work and sexually assaulted her. Mahto later told her that if she does not accept his proposal, she would be “destroyed”.

India: Four sentenced to 30 years for raping minor

Bilaspur, Dec 14 (PTI) A court in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district sentenced four men to 30 years' imprisonment for repeatedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

Third additional district and sessions judge Sanjeev Kumar Tamak on Friday convicted Charan Singh (30), Ishwar Dhurv (31), Nageshwar Rajak (26) and Manoj Wadekar (35), the victim's lawyer Priyanka Shukla said.

The court sentenced the accused to 30 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 on Singh, and Rs 50,000 each on the other three convicts, she said.

India: 4 held for gang-raping 20-year-old woman in Chhattisgarh

Rajnandgaon, Dec 9 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was gang-raped allegedly by four men, all of whom were arrested later, in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred on the night of December 2 under Salhewara police station limits when the victim arrived at her maternal uncle's home to attend a family function, said an official.

India: Chhattisgarh: youth held for `raping' six-year-old girl

Raigarh, Dec 7 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, the police said on Saturday.

The accused, who lives in the girl's neighbourhood, entered her house on Friday evening when she was alone and allegedly raped her, said Kiran Gupta, Station House Officer of Lailunga police station.

India: Naxal terrorists torch vehicles engaged in PMGSY road work

Raipur, Nov 24 (PTI) Five vehicles and a machine engaged in road construction work were set ablaze by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening near Madonar village under Chhotedongar police station area where road construction work under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is underway, a local police official told PTI.

India: Naxal terrorist gunned down in encounter at Sukma

Sukma, Nov 23 (PTI) A naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Sukma district on Saturday morning, police said.

The skirmish took place in the forest near Muler village under Fulbagdi police station area, when a team of District Reserve Guard was out on a counter insurgency operation, Sukma superintendent of police Shalabh Sinha said.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in C'garh

Raipur, Nov 13 (PTI) A Naxal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, police said.

The skirmish took place at around 3 pm in the forest of Gachanpalli village under Bhejji police station area when a joint team of security forces was on a counter-insurgency operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

India: Nine naxal terrorists surrender in C'garh

Sukma, Nov 11 (PTI) Nine naxals, including a self-proclaimed commander carrying the reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, surrendered on Monday in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said.

The cadres, two of them women, turned themselves in before senior police officials in Sukma, superintendent of police Shalabh Sinha said.

Of the surrendered Naxals, Gaddo Krishna alias Badru (35), a Divisional Commander (DVC), is carrying the reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, he said.
