Indian EAM Jaishankar likely to visit Kuwait on Wednesday

New Delhi, Jun 7 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to visit Kuwait on Wednesday to explore steps to further deepen India's ties with the oil-rich Gulf nation, diplomatic sources said.

The visit comes nearly three months after the two countries decided to establish a joint ministerial commission to formulate a framework to strengthen ties in sectors like energy, trade, investment, manpower and labour and information technology.

New Delhi, June 6 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why the doorstep ration delivery scheme by his government was stalled by the Centre and appealed to him to allow its implementation in the national interest.

He said the scheme should be implemented across the country in view of COVID-19 otherwise ration shops will act as super-spreaders.

India: Airlines IndiGo quarterly loss widens to Rs 11.47 billion

New Delhi, Jun 5 (PTI) InterGlobe Aviation, parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Saturday reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,147.2 (11.47 billion) crore in the three months ended March, primarily due to a sharp decline in revenues amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The airline, which had a fleet of 285 planes at the end of March 2021, had a net loss of Rs 870.8 crore in the year-ago period.

India: CBI directs staff to wear formal dress on duty

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) New CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has directed all officials of the agency to be dressed in formals on duty, warning them that casual dressing will not be allowed.

In an order issued by the Deputy Director Administration, it has been made clear that while all male staff should be dressed in trousers, collared shirts and formal shoes with proper shaving, female staffers will wear suits, sarees, formal shirts and trousers.

India: Drive-through vaccination camp at south Delhi mall

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) A two-day drive-through vaccination camp for people aged 18 and above was on Friday inaugurated at a plush mall in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, its organisers said.

The camp, set up in the mall's parking lot, is being run by a leading private facility in partnership with an NGO, they said.

"A temporary drive-through vaccination centre for people aged 18 and above was inaugurated today (Friday). It will run for a total of two days," a spokesperson of Apollo hospital here said, adding that the camp was located in Ambience Mall.

India: Visas of stranded foreigners extended till August 31

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) The visas of foreign nationals, stranded in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have been extended by the government till August 31 on gratis basis or free of charge.

The Union Home Ministry said that due to the non-availability of normal commercial flight operations on account of the pandemic since March, 2020, a number of foreign nationals who came to India prior to that date on valid Indian visas got stranded in the country.

India: Defence Ministry clears mega naval project

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) The Defence Ministry on Friday cleared a mega project to build six conventional submarines for the Indian Navy at a cost of around Rs 43,000 crore, a decision aimed at narrowing the gap with growing naval prowess of China, government sources said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The DAC is the Defence Ministry's highest decision-making body on procurement.

India: Private jet sent to Dominica to bring back Choksi leaves

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) The Qatar Airways' private jet that was sent by India to bring back fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi from Dominica has left the Caribbean island country after nearly seven days, according to public flight data.

The Qatar Executive flight A7CEE had left the Delhi International Airport at 3.44 AM on May 28 carrying necessary documents related to cases against Choksi. It had travelled to Marigot in Dominica via Madrid as Choksi's lawyers filed a habeas corpus petition before the Dominica High Court.

India: CM Kejriwal to discuss preparations for possible third wave of COVID-19

New Delhi, June 4 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called two meetings on Friday to discuss preparations for the possible third wave of coronavirus.

"The CM will meet the expert committee at 11 and the preparation committee at 3, the CM's office said in a tweet.
